Life Groups F.A.Q.

What is a Life Group?
Life Groups at Lutheran Church of Hope are the primary opportunity for growth in community. We believe transformation happens best in community. Simply put, Life Groups do much more than study, the do life together!
Why are life groups important?
We were made to be in community. Regardless of your interests or stage in life, being a part of a community is important to the way God designs us. We truly are better when we are connected together (John 17: 20-23). Life groups allow us to know others and be known in a safe, encouraging environment.
How can I get connected in a life group?
Life groups at Hope Des Moines meet around the city throughout the week, and are available for men, women, couples and singles. Visit info@hopedesmoines.org and register for the group you’re interested in. The group leader will contact you with further details.
What happens at a life group?
Of course every group is different, yet Life Groups all have a similar foundation for growth: Prayer, Focus on the Bible as the main authority (even if doing a book study), fellowship (have fun, fun, etc!), and service (serve outside your group regularly).
Can I start my own group?
Yes! We would love to talk with you more about starting a new life group. Please contact our small group coaches and they will discuss the best way to begin the group and set up a time to meet with you for a short training. Contact us at info@hopedesmoines.org.
How does a current Small Group become a Life Group?
Contact Hope Des Moines Operations Coordinator Tiffany Anenson at info@hopedesmoines.org if you would like to be a Life Group through Hope Des Moines. Below are the basic roles of a Life Group Leader and their group.
What is the difference between a Life Group and a small group or activity group?
Although Life Groups will function in similar ways, there are a few main differences. The role of a life group is as follows:
1-Growth: Life Groups are open to new members joining their group and continually looking for new ways to invite and include new people for the sake of the kingdom! Therefore, Life Groups will be listed in church publications.
2-Apprenticing: Life Group leaders are strongly encouraged to always have an “apprentice” or co-leader they are intentionally providing an opportunity for to grow in the group in order to at some point lead a new group.
3-Support: A life group coach will connect with you by phone or in person on a regular basis to pray for you, support you, and answer any questions you may have. They are simply there to encourage you, not teach you or enforce rules.
4-Resources: Hope will provide life groups with ongoing discussion guides for sermons a list of recommended resources, as well as online access to life group tools and helps for leading
5-Relationships with other leaders through attending two celebration events throughout the year.
-On the other hand, a small group may function very similarly, but may not intentionally carry out the above roles.
-An activity group may have similar characteristics, but instead of focusing on study of God’s Word, focuses on a particular activity or interest such as sports, exercise, or crafts.
Can we remain a small group or activity group?
Yes, absolutely! We love all kinds of groups! If you would like any help with leading or resources for your group, feel free to contact our coaches at info@hopedesmoines.org.
Can I invite others at Hope and outside of Hope to a life group?
Yes! Small groups at all of Hope’s locations are open to anyone. We would love for you to invite your friends, whether they are currently involved in the Hope community or not.
Can I worship at Hope Des Moines and take a class at another Hope campus?
Absolutely! One of the great things about being one church in multiple locations is the ability to take advantage of all the great opportunities available to you. Visit www.hopewdm.org to learn more!
