Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is CORE?
A: CORE is a brand new discipleship experience that provides a great next step for believers looking to follow Jesus more closely and live out their faith on a daily basis. CORE is designed for believers, followers, and servant leaders on the Hope Circle. CORE will involve a great meal, dynamic worship, live teaching from the Hope Des Moines staff, and interactive time in a smaller group setting.
Q: When and where is CORE?
A: CORE will take place on Sunday nights from 6:00-8:30 PM running February 12th through April 1. It will be held at the Life Center (201 E. Locust, Des Moines).
Q: Is CORE different from the ALPHA course? If so, how?
A: Yes, they are different! The ALPHA course is a great class specifically designed for those skeptical or seeking the faith, or even brand new believers. CORE on the other hand is designed for those who are already on the discipleship journey and desire to go deeper in their faith.
Q: Is ALPHA a pre-requisite for CORE?
A: No. CORE is open to anyone that desires to grow deeper. However, we do suggest that you take the ALPHA course at one of Hope’s campuses in the near future to gain a better foundation for the topics that will come in CORE.
Q: What topics are covered in CORE?
A: A sampling of the topics included are: Connecting God’s story in scripture with your personal story, understanding our identity in Christ, following Jesus daily, spiritual disciplines, emotionally healthy spirituality, discovering your spiritual gifts, and how to share your faith authentically. Each week will also offer a challenging “take-home” application to help you apply what you’ve just learned.
Q: What is the difference between joining a Life Group and attending CORE? Should I do one or both?
A: Our prayer is that everyone in the Hope Des Moines community is always involved in a Life Group for fellowship and encouragement. Think of your Life Group as your traveling partners on the discipleship journey. CORE on the other hand gives you the tools you need for that journey. If your group would like to take the 9 weeks of CORE as your next group study together, that’s great, OR, you are welcome to do CORE as an individual in addition to your Life Group.
Q: How often will CORE be offered?
A: Our hope and prayer is that CORE will be offered on a continual basis 2-3 times per year, either as with live teaching or in a DVD-led small group study format.
Q: How do I sign up for CORE and is there a cost?
A: Visit www.hopecitybranch.org/core_2012.htm and register, call 222-1520 ext. 170, or e-mail info@hopedesmoines.org for more information. There is no cost to attend CORE. A free-will offering will be taken for the meal served each week.
